A Post From The Past. Floral Emblem Contributions.

Multiply is in the throws of closing down and as I went through some old posts this particular little gem gave me a few ideas for our group here.

Since this post was made many of those who contributed their emblem are no longer in contact however some most definitely are!

The flower photos along with the avatars for those who joined into this post were placed together by a very dear friend from India, Shankar Grandpa. Shankar is no longer with us but I would love to post this new challenge in His honour because he was a very loving and helpful friend to many in cyber land.

So dear members the challenge is now declared back on again here in our little group.

You can post your photos here or on your own page.

~~~~~~~~~
Who can estimate the elevating and refining influences and moral value
of flowers with all their graceful forms, bewitching shades and combinations
of colors and exquisitely varied perfumes? These silent influences are
unconsciously felt even by those who do not appreciate them consciously
and thus with better and still better fruits, nuts, grains, vegetables and
flowers, will the earth be transformed, man's thought refined, and turned
from the base destructive forces into nobler production. One which will
lift him to high planes of action toward the happy day when the Creator
of all this beautiful work is more acknowledged and loved, and where man
shall offer his brother man, not bullets and bayonets, but richer grains,
better fruit and fairer flowers from the bounty of this earth.
A Touch of Spring From Australia.
Some of the pretties I have photographed lately in the Garden.
Summer will be here soon and the garden will dry out for certain but hopefully the Summer blooms will make up for the dying back of some of the Spring bulbs and Annuals.
Trees are an important element in the garden and already when temperatures have begun to rise, the trees are a wonderful relief and shelter from the hot sun.
The Curry Bush is flowering at the moment.
An excerpt taken from Burke's Backyard about this plant.
Curry Bush: The French Alternative
Just when you think you can smell a delicious curry cooking, you may be surprised to discover it is the strong aroma of a curry bush instead of a flaming hot vindaloo.
The curry bush (Helichrysum italicum) is heat and frost hardy. It grows in full sun and well drained soil. It has lovely silver foliage which does not need pruning and which it keeps all year round.
Uses
Curry is not made from the curry bush, as its flavour changes when heated. However new shoots can be picked off, chopped finely and put into dressing.
A Blue ceramic pot filled with Pansies, Petunias, Sweet Alice and other Annuals and now this pot is Full of Beauty.
Different Colour Combinations sit prettily together.
The Bulbs have now died back and I have begun to pull those which have dried out properly.
The Hippeastrum's have all but finished.
Below open.
How can I not finish this post without another photo of the beautiful orange and gold standard rose. I do not know it's name.
I hope that you have enjoyed some Gorgeous Colours from Our Australian Spring Garden.
Hello everyone - my trial post
Helleborus - Lent Rose
Helleborus - Lent Rose
Thanks for the invite Carol, and glad to be here. I was sorting my photos some time ago and found that I did not even know half of the names of the plants growing in my garden, so I hope that a few puzzles will now be solved by the experts on this site.
My first photo is what I believe to be a Lent Rose, a near relation of the Christmas rose. I have a patch of them in the garden and they are more or less the first to flower every year. I noticed last year that I even had a Christmas Rose that suddenly appeared (the white one), so I am hoping for more this Christmas. I once had a couple and they disappeared, so it looks like the roots have awakened again.
A little problem I have is that I know most of the plants growing in my garden with the German names, but not the english, so hope for some assistance in this line of things.
Once again thank you for the work invested Carol and I am really looking forward to contributing here.
Test Post from Lynda 11/14/2012
Not everything in my garden is real.
Beginning to look like fall around here
but soon fall will be replaced with winter decor.
Photos taken early one morning.  Unedited.
Just a test post as a new member of this group here on Blog Spot but I had to prove I wasn't a robot just to preview and Blog Spot has really hard ones at times.  I hope that feature can be done away with for this group posting and commenting.
Flowers From The Winter Garden
Garden Magic
This is the garden's magic,
That through the sunny hours
The gardener who tends it, Himself
 outgrows his flowers.
He grows by gift of patience,
Since he who sows must know
That only in the Lord's good time
Does any seedling grow.
He learns from buds unfolding,
From each tight leaf unfurled,
That his own heart, expanding,
Is one with all the world.
He bares his head to sunshine,
His bending back a sign
Of grace, and ev'ry shower becomes
His sacramental wine.
And when at last his labors
Bring forth the very stuff
And substance of all beauty
This is reward enough.
FLOWER FESTIVAL - MADEIRA ISLAND
The Flower Festival, that takes place in spring when the flowers are at their best, is one of the major attractions in the island. I happened to be in Madeira island, last weekend, when the Festival was held. A myriad of flowers, a myriad of colours...
Crucifix orchid (Epidendrum ibaguense)
As Easter approaches for those who celebrate it, I wanted to introduce you to a plant I have growing in pots around my garden.
A very rewarding plant for my area the Crucifix orchid (Epidendrum ibaguense) is a very interesting plant.
Originating in South America this plant is associated with Easter and the passion of Jesus Christ, although nobody really knows what sort of wood the cross was made of, or what plant was used to make the crown of thorns.
It is thought that these plants were given religious significance by the Christian missionaries.
Photo By Milli
"This species occurs naturally from Mexico to Colombia. It has long, thin stems and leathery leaves. The flowers bloom in clusters, with up to 20 flowers open on a stem at once. They come in orange, red, mauve, purple, salmon and yellow.
The common name 'crucifix orchid' refers to the lip of the flower (called the labellum), which resembles a small, gold cross. Crucifix orchids are tough, easy to grow, easily propagated and they have vivid, long lasting flowers. In fact, they are an excellent beginner's orchid. They can be grown in containers in a free-draining mix, amongst rocks in the garden, or in soil. They like a frost-free climate and flower best in a full sun position."
All Information Gleaned From The Net.
Have a Happy And Safe Easter Everyone.
Milli.
