Saw your post of past floral emblems and thought I would quickly share ours.
SOUTH AFRICA FLORAL EMBLEM - PROTEA
Photos taken on the Koppie here behind, 2 streets from me. Seems like the Protea grows wild up there and I never even knew the koppie looked like that. It is beautiful and full of wild grasses and wild flowers and you can see the whole neighbourhood from there.
Such a surprise from the walk Kenneth, my son, and I took one afternoon.
A gem right in my neighbourhood.

Thanks for posting Marianne and thank you for supplying all the wonderful photos.
ReplyDeleteI love proteas and they grow well in our climate here.
I was amazed to read that you have not ventured to this area before going with your son. What a terrific view.
from the road just looks like a little hill with some swings and so at bottom ............ had no idea , it was so lovely up there, took loads of photos with wild grasses and flowers ......... such a wonderful day and such a surprise. You see, it is too dangerous to venture out alone on foot for a woman especially, there is lots of vagrants everywhere, sleeping on empty lots and parks, so never thought of it, but he suggested it when I needed a photo of motion for PT, took some pics of children playing on the swings and then took a walk up as we noticed a small trail.
DeleteLovely Marianne.
ReplyDeleteThey are very popular here and grow in all of their shapes and sizes. The florists love to get their hand on them as they last for ages when cut.
I bought 5 when my father passed away, gave my sister 4 to take home, kept one here, they put 2 on the casket and my mom and sister kept one each as a memory. Protea has a special meaning to me.
